Sky Solar through its Japanese subsidiary, Sky Solar Japan, has announced the development of several solar photovoltaic (PV) plants generating a total capacity of 40MW of clean energy.

The company has plans to construct PV power stations in up to 20 areas of Japan with each station having an installed capacity of around 2MW and invest JPY600m ($7.6m) in each of these projects.

Sky Solar Japan head Rui Chen said, "Sky Solar’s mission is to produce new energy power with a high level of safety, quality and with low costs through the tracking and objective analysis of collected data and by demonstrating this professionalism and our strengths within this industry in Japan."

Sky Solar founder and chairman Weili Su said, "Sky Solar has a long-term plan for the development, investment and operation of PV power stations."

The company will determine the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for each project through a public tender and has already selected the sites on which these projects will be developed. It has also submitted grid connection applications.

The company will construct about 2MW Uto-Kumamoto PV power plant on an area of 25,000m2, and use over 8,000 solar modules to generate an annual capacity of 1,950,000kWh of clean electricity.

Sky Solar will finalise the EPC partner of the project by the end of July and begin construction in October.

The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of December 2012 and the electricity produced will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Company.

The construction of the 2MW Mihomura-Ibarakiken project on leased private land is expected to begin in August and the grid connection is slated to be accomplished by the end of December.
