US-based solar equipment supplier Yotta Energy has partnered with Upstart Power to address the growing demand for clean, distributed energy in the commercial building sector.

Under the partnership, Upstart Power will license its fuel cell fleet management software to Yotta Energy. The integration allows for the deployment of Upgen NXG on-demand energy appliances within Yotta’s energy management solution, enhancing reliability and resilience.

The collaboration aims to deliver comprehensive, scalable energy solutions for commercial and industrial facilities, effectively combining solar, battery storage, and fuel cell technologies.

With rising energy costs and the need for 24/7 power, businesses are increasingly adopting solar energy to reduce expenses and enhance resilience. However, the intermittent nature of solar generation poses challenges in meeting continuous energy demands.

Yotta Energy’s module-level energy storage architecture offers a low-voltage, space-saving solution that integrates seamlessly with solar systems. This approach simplifies design, permitting, and installation while addressing solar intermittency. It reduces energy storage costs by up to 40% compared to conventional systems, enhancing project efficiency and scalability.

The company’s Yotta Vision energy management system software further supports energy management by enabling real-time monitoring, analysis, and optimisation of energy systems, including solar, batteries, load control, generators, and EV chargers. This provides commercial customers with improved energy economics and operational reliability.

Upstart Power chief commercial officer Georg Bettenhauser said: “With its building block architecture, which enables the standardised co-location of batteries with rooftop solar, Yotta Energy has ‘cracked the code’ of how to cost-effectively deploy battery storage in the built environment, — particularly in small and medium-sized sites such as convenience stores, car dealerships, quick-serve restaurants, strip malls, supercentres, and distribution centres, multi-family, and high rise buildings.

“We are excited to contribute to Yotta’s journey to transform energy management in the commercial building sector with our Upgen NXG on-demand energy appliances.”

Upstart Power is laser-focused on the design and manufacture of the Upgen NXG line of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) on-demand energy appliances.
