This development involves a consortium led by Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy, featuring industry players such as JERA, Electric Power Development (J-POWER), Tohoku Electric Power (Tohoku EPCO), and ITOCHU.
The order comprises 21 units of Vestas’ V236-15.0 MW turbines, accompanied by a comprehensive service agreement to guarantee optimised asset performance.
The Oga Katagami Akita offshore wind project, situated off the coasts of Oga, Katagami, and Akita cities, is set for turbine delivery in 2026, commissioning in 2027, and operational commencement in June 2028.
Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy representative executive officer Atsushi Yuihara said: “We are delighted to work with Vestas for this significant project. Through successful delivery and operation of the project, we will contribute to a carbon neutral society in Japan and the revitalisation of Akita’ local economy.”
The order marks the first inaugural firm order for Vestas’ V236-15.0 MW turbine in the Asia Pacific and the first for a project being developed under Japan’s Renewable Energy Sea Area Utilisation Act.
