Susquehanna University has partnered with WGL Energy systems for the development of a 14-acre solar array in Pennsylvania.
As per the agreement, WGL Energy will develop and operate 3.9MW DC (3 AC MW) ground-mounted solar array facility that will supply 30% of the university’s electricity needs.
WGL will own and sell the energy to Susquehanna University under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
WGL Energy Systems president Sanjiv Mahan said: “It’s exciting to partner with the university and develop our first solar project in Pennsylvania.
“We look forward to expanding our business to provide more energy answers in the Commonwealth.”
The 12,000-panel, 14-acre project is located at the Centre for Environmental Education and Research (CEER) along the western border of campus on Sassafras Street.
Construction work on the project development is currently in progress and expected to complete by next summer.
About 5,300-megawatt hours (MWh) per year of electricity is estimated to be generated that will power all the residence halls of the campus and avoid greenhouse gas emissions.

WGL Energy’s spectrum of energy offerings includes electricity, natural gas, renewable energy, carbon reduction and distributed generation.
