Energy storage solutions provider Sineng Electric has partnered with solar manufacturer Trinasolar to deliver its central power conversion system (PCS) energy storage solution to the 300MWh Abydos battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate, Egypt.

Developed by AMEA Power and constructed by Energy China ZTPC, the project is said to be Egypt’s first utility-scale energy storage project. It is a “vital” enhancement to the existing 500MW Abydos solar power plant.

The integration of a BESS allows the project to be more effective in solar energy management and aligns with Egypt’s vision for energy sustainability.

Sineng Electric will supply its 5MW central PCS medium-voltage (MV) turnkey stations, EH-5000-HA-UD/33, for the project.

These stations are designed for optimal efficiency, reliability, and safety. They feature advanced thermal management, compatibility with high-power batteries, and multi-layer protection.

The PCS’ design boosts system performance and reduces capital expenditures, offering a scalable solution for large-scale energy projects.

Sineng Electric vice-president Zhengmao Jiang said: “The project exemplifies the transformative potential of solar-plus-storage systems in addressing energy challenges. It also marks Sineng Electric’s first shipment of energy storage solutions to the Middle East and Africa, a significant milestone in our global expansion.

“We are honoured to contribute to Egypt’s efforts to advance energy infrastructure, enhance grid stability, and ensure a reliable energy supply.”

Earlier this month, Sineng Electric contributed to the commissioning of the 90MW Omkareshwar floating solar plant in Madhya Pradesh, India, by supplying EP-3300-HB-UD central inverters for the project.

The company also commissioned a 6MW/24MWh grid-forming energy storage project in Tibet, China, at an average altitude of more than 4,500m.
