Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) will supply two wind farms in South Africa with 109 units of onshore wind turbines.

The SWT-2.3-108 turbine will each feature a rated capacity of 2.3 MW and a 108 meters diameter rotor.

The 140 MW Kangnas wind farm project is situated near Springbok in the Northern Cape while the 110 MW Perdekraal East wind farm is located 80km northeast of Ceres in the Western Cape.

The 10-year full service agreement is expected to secure the performance of the wind farms, together generating enough clean electricity for around 214,000 South African homes.

The contracts for the wind farms have been awarded to a consortium led by Mainstream Renewable Power by the Department of Energy in South Africa as part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

Under these contracts, Siemens Gamesa will commence the supply of the wind turbines early next year, while the completion of the wind farm is planned for 2020.
