Nottingham-based ONYX Insight, a provider of predictive data analytics and engineering expertise for the wind industry, is set to open a new office in Shanghai, China in the second quarter of 2021. The opening will allow the company to better serve wind farm owners and operators across the country as well as helping to significantly drive down operational costs. Expansion plans are already in place for the office in 2022.
China will account for almost one-third of the global wind market in the 2020s and is projected to install more wind capacity than the next five largest markets combined. The Shanghai office will share resources with the company’s existing branches in South Korea, India and Australia to service the wind sector across the wider Asia-Pacific region.
In a press release, Yuan Huang, engineering manager for China, said: “China is gearing up to be the world’s dominant market over the next 20 years. The world’s net zero goals depend on the success of Chinese renewables to a large degree. Empowering the country’s rapidly expanding wind sector by delivering greater oversight of asset health to wind farm owners and operators will be crucial in unlocking lower energy costs and further growth.”
The announcement follows the opening of the company’s office in Madrid in April 2021 to extend its support network in Europe.
