Chinese power equipment manufacturer Yingli Green Energy (Yingli Solar) has signed a deal supply solar panels to two solar power plants in Chile, with power generating capacity of 240MW.

Both the facilities will feature 110MW of concentrated solar power (CSP) and 17.5 hours of thermal storage each.

Yingli Solar will deliver 780,000 multicrystalline utility-scale YGE 72 Cell solar panels for the projects.

Installation of the solar panels will be done in two phases at the facilities.

Yingli has completed deliveries for the first phase. Deliveries for the second phase have been scheduled to start in August.

The first of the two power projects is likely to be commissioned within mid-2016.

Once operational, the solar power projects will be connected to Chile’s national utility grid and are expected to ensure power supply for commercial, industrial, and residential purposes.

The renewable energy generating facilities will be able to reduce carbon emissions by around 385,000 tons every year.

Photovoltaic portions of the solar projects will span across almost 100,000 acres of land in total, Yingli said.

Yingli Green Energy Spain managing director Fernando Calisalvo said: "We believe that supplying projects of this magnitude and significance will cement our leadership position in Latin America, one of the world’s highest potential emerging markets."

Yingli Green Energy chairman and CEO Liansheng Miao said: "Our demonstrated ability and proven experience supplying large-scale hybrid solar power plants, including the projects announced today as well as PV-diesel systems, will be a compelling differentiator for Yingli.

"Demand for these innovative applications is growing, especially in emerging markets, and we are committed to meeting that demand worldwide with our high quality products."
