German company Voith Hydro has been awarded a contract by Endesa Chile for the supply, installation, and commissioning of electromechanical equipment for the Los Cóndores hydropower plant, which is under construction in the mountainous area of the Maule Region.
The plant comprises two Pelton vertical axis generators, installed in an underground machine room, which have an installed capacity of approximately 150MW.
Estimated to have a plant factor of 48% and an average annual generation of 642GWh, the Los Cóndores project is a part of Endesa Chile, which aims to develop the country’s electricity, providing clean, renewable, and low operating cost energy.
Under the contract, Voith Hydro will be responsible for the electromechanical development, equipment engineering, manufacturing, installation, supervision, commissioning services and project management.
The electromechanical development scope includes two Pelton turbines, two generators, plant and product engineering, manufacturing, erection, supervision, commissioning and project management services.
Voith will manufacture the project’s key components in São Paulo, Brazil.

The project’s all civil works including among others, intake, adduction tunnel, pressure pique, underground powerhouse and discharge channel will be completed in about five years and is slated to commence commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2018.
