US-based SunEdison has installed a 19MW-DC solar power system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia.

The solar power installation, which includes ground-mount, parking canopy and roof-top systems, is expected to save the airport around $627,000 annually.

SunEdison Renewable Operation Center (ROC) will offer 24/7 solar system management and monitoring services for the solar power system to ensure better performance.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) managing director Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad said the authority is taking steps to generate clean energy which will be beneficial to everyone in Malaysia.

"This initiative also demonstrates our support towards the Government’s initiative in introducing renewable energy and also to further reduce carbon footprint," Bashir added.

SunEdison Asia, Middle East, South Africa, and Australia president Pashupathy Gopalan said the project reflects company’s ability to drive growth through unique development opportunities.

SunEdison, which develops, finances, installs and operates distributed power plants, has R&D and manufacturing facilities in the US, Europe and Asia.
