SunEdison, a firm into development of renewable energy, has signed an agreement to supply 2.7MW of solar electricity to utility firm Southern California Edison in the US.
Southern California Edison has entered into two 20-year power purchase agreements with SunEdison for the power supply.
SunEdison Western US solar business regional general manager Sam Youneszadeh said: "We know that air quality is a big concern for residents in the area, but so is getting reliable electricity to a growing, economically important region.
"Solar is a great way for utilities to boost grid reliability without emitting greenhouse gases. Solar is cost effective, quick-to-build, and can easily scale."
According to the terms of the agreement, SunEdison will install, own and operate each system, which are expected to produce power to provide electricity to 640 California homes annually.
SunEdison also intends to build the systems using a mix of parking canopies and rooftop space.

By GlobalDataThe firm stated that the systems are expected to reduce emission of around 50 million pounds of CO2 over two decades.
This transaction is subject to the approval of California’s Public Utility Commission.
SunEdison is into developing and operating renewable power facilities, which supply electricity to residential, commercial, government and utility customers.
