Siemens Canada has secured a wind turbine order for a project to be built in Saskatchewan province.
As part of the contract, Siemens will supply ten direct drive SWT-2.3-113 wind turbines for the Morse project, which is being developed by Algonquin Power & Utilities.
In addition, Siemens has signed a 10-year service and maintenance agreement for the 23MW project.
With commercial operation expected by early 2015, the construction of the project is set to begin in summer 2014.
The project will provide clean energy to about 8,000 households in Saskatchewan.
Siemens said that its direct drive wind turbines feature only half of the parts required for a conventional geared wind turbine and a significantly smaller number of moving parts.
