Siemens Energy has received a £500m contract from Statoil and Statkraft, the Norwegian energy utilities, for the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm in the UK.

As per the terms of the contract, Siemens will manufacture, deliver, install and commission 67 Siemens direct-drive wind turbines, which come with a capacity of 6MW each and feature a 154-meter rotor.

Siemens will commence installation in early 2017. The contract also includes a five-year service.

Located 32km north of the city of Cromer in North Norfolk, the Dudgeon offshore wind project is 70% owned by Statoil and the remaining by Statkraft.

Statoil has been responsible as operator from the beginning of the construction phase.

The 402 MW Dudgeon is expected to offer clean power to more than 410,000 households in the UK.

Siemens Energy wind power division CEO Dr. Markus Tacke noted: "We are proud to convince more and more customers about the advantages of our 6-megawatts-offshore machine.

"With Dudgeon we extend our project pipeline for this new turbine. This gives us the opportunity to further ramp up production capacity, which is a precondition to bring down the costs for offshore wind."
