Seaway Heavy Lifting has won a contract from Bladt Industries for the transportation and installation of the substation at the 288MW Sandbank offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

Featuring a jacket, skirt piles and deck, the substation platform is expected to be installed in 2016 with the help of Stanislav Yudin vessel.

The Sandbank wind farm will be constructed 90km west of the Sylt island in water depths between 25m and 37m within the exclusive economic zone off the German North Sea coast.

The wind farm is expected to cost €1.2bn. It is jointly being developed by Vattenfall and the city of Munich public utility Stadtwerke München.

Siemens Energy is supplying 72 of its SWT-4.0-130 turbines for the wind farm.

The wind farm is expected to generate 1.4 terawatt-hours of energy per year for about 400,000 homes.
