Good Energy has formed a partnership with the Danish group Dong Energy that will enable it to source offshore wind power for the first time to its customers.
With this agreement, Good Energy will receive 12% of the output from 210MW capacity Westermost Rough Wind Farm located in the North Sea to provide renewable power to nearly 26,000 average homes.
Westermost Rough Wind Farm is located around five miles off the Yorkshire coast.
It comprises 35 Siemens 6MW turbines each varying a height of 177m from sea level.
Good Energy founder and chief executive Juliet Davenport said: “We’re delighted to be working with DONG Energy to bring offshore wind power to our customers for the first time.
“This agreement will help us meet ever-increasing demand for 100% renewable electricity as our customer base continues to grow.

By GlobalData“Offshore wind is a huge British success story and so we’re pleased to be playing our part by buying power from Westermost Rough.
“Offshore wind will complement the other renewable technologies in our energy mix, such as onshore wind and solar, so this agreement is a great fit for Good Energy and a good deal for our customers.
The agreement carries a one year term which can be extended as a part of wider co-operation between the two companies.
Good Energy also intends to increase the volume of power purchased from Dong overtime.
Dong Energy Trading & Portfolio Management head Søren Scherfig said: “We have an ambition to support the energy transformation in UK and become one of the UK’s leading energy suppliers to industrial & commercial customers and independent retailers.
“We want to supply sustainable, reliable and affordable energy to our customers.
“This agreement with Good Energy is an important milestone as it’s the first time a domestic supplier in the UK will buy energy from a specific DONG Energy offshore wind farm.”
Wiltshire-based renewable energy company, Good Energy, owns and operates two onshore wind farms and seven solar farms.
It purchases power from more than 1,000 independent renewable generators located across the UK.
