GE Wind turbine

Global power equipment manufacturer General Electric (GE) has secured orders to supply wind turbines totaling 110MW capacity to new wind farms in Germany.

Under the terms of the order, the company will deliver a total of 44 GE 2.5-120 wind turbines to eight new German wind farms.

The company will deliver six turbines to the Gundersheim wind farm, six turbines to the Offenbach wind farm and 14 turbines to the Rehborn wind farm.

All these three farms are currently under construction with Juwi.

GE will supply three turbines to Abo-Wind’s Waechtersbach farm, three turbines to Max Bögl Wiesner’s Fuerth farm, and five turbines to Bögl’s Kraefft farm.

The remaining two turbines and five turbines will be delivered to Pfalzwerke’s Oberndorf’s farm and Goellheimer Wald farm respectively.

Scope of the order also includes long-term full service agreements, predictive condition monitoring services, unplanned maintenance coverage and advanced services as well as options for turbine performance and life extension enhancement.

Juwi Group CEO Matthias Willenbacher said the GE’s 2.5-120 wind turbines are suitable for low-wind speed regions in Germany.

"We chose these in particular because of their good cost-performance ratio, and we expect high reliability based on the long history and experience with former GE turbine types," Willenbacher added.

"In addition, the high ratio between rotor diameter and rated power enables us to produce a maximum of full load hours at low-wind speeds—a key factor for a successful energy transition in Germany."

The company claims that its 2.5-120 wind turbines utilise the Industrial Internet and combine world-class efficiency and power output at low-wind speed sites.
