Global power equipment manufacturer General Electric (GE) has secured an order from SSE Renewables to supply 10 GE-1.6MW wind turbines for the Langhope Rig wind farm in Scotland, the UK.

Upon operational, the wind project will generate 16MW of electricity enough to power approximately 15,000 Scottish homes.

The wind turbines to be supplied by GE for the Langhope Rig project will have a hub height of 82.5m and a blade length of 40.2m.

Scope of the order also includes provision of long-term operations and maintenance services for the SSE’s wind farm.

SSE Renewables wholesale corporate affairs Kirstanne McDowell said, "GE’s wind turbines were the right fit for the Langhope Rig Wind Farm site, and we are pleased to be working closely with GE as construction at the site progresses."

The Langhope Rig project is said to help the Scottish government achieve a new interim target of generating 50% energy from renewable sources by 2015.
