Gdf Suez, through its subsidiary Tractebel Energia, is planning to commission up to 750MW of renewable energy development in Brazil, strengthening its renewable energy position in the region.
Over the next six years, the company would commission around 750MW of additional renewable capacity at the Santa Monica Wind Park and at the recently acquired Campo Largo complex,
Gdf Suez chairman and CEO Gerard Mestrallet said the new developments demonstrate Gdf Suez’s commitment to Brazil, which is a key market for Gdf Suez.
"Brazil is particularly suitable for wind energy investments, taking into account the attractiveness of both the natural environment and the commercial background," Mestrallet added.
The two projects include the 97MW Santa Monica project, in the State of Ceará close to Tractebel Energia’s existing Trairi (115MW) and 26MW Beberibe Wind Farm.
The two farms, both located in the Northeast of Brazil, is likely to benefit from shared infrastructure including substations and a transmission line.
