Italian renewable energy company Enel Green Power has commenced construction on Pulida solar power plant in South Africa.
The Pulida solar power plant is capable of generating 82.5MW of renewable power.
According to Enel Green Power, the solar plant will generate 150 GWh power per year, which will be equal to the power consumed by 48,000 South African households. The power plant can help reducing 138,000 tonnes of CO2 emission into the atmosphere per year.
The Italian company previously entered into an agreement with South Africn electrictiy producer Eskom under which it will supply Eskom with power for a tenure of 20 years.
The agreement was a part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) of the South African Government.
Enel Green Power has also committed to construct total of five power projects including the 111MW Gibson Bay project, 88MW Nojoli wind farm, 82.5MW Aurora, 82.5 MW Paleisheweul and 66 MW Tom Burkesolar power project.
