
Independent certification body DNV GL has certified WindMW’s €1.2bn Meerwind Süd|Ost offshore wind farm in Germany.
WindMW is responsible for the development, construction and operation of the 288MWproject, which is located 23 km north of Helgoland, Germany.
The project certification will ensure that the wind farm will operate safely and in budget with all technical, design and construction requirements are fulfilled.
DNV GL and WindMW have been in close cooperation for the planning and construction phase, aimed at optimising the performance of the wind farm.
Spread across 43 km2, Meerwind Süd|Ost the farm provides renewable power to the grid for 360,000 households.
DNV GL said that more than 100 of its experts were involved, for more than 36 month period for the certification process, to ensure the highest quality standards were maintained while overcoming significant challenge that were created due to the distance of the farm from shore, height of the turbines and the diameters of the rotor blade.

Construction on the privately financed project started in 2012 and completed in April 2014.
WindMW is a joint venture between Blackstone’s energy focused private equity business Blackstone Energy Partners and Windland Energieerzeugungs.
