Clarksville Light & Water Company has partnered with Scenic Hill Solar to develop a solar power plant in Arkansas, US, that would supply electricity to a municipal utility.
The 6.5MW direct current (5MW alternate current) solar power plant will be Arkansas's 3rd-largest solar facility.
Clarksville Light & Water Company general manager John Lester said: “The effort is designed to position Clarksville, Arkansas as a town with the quality of life of a small town, but one that can think and do big things.
“We are delighted that this project will save our customers approximately $500,000 annually while growing our existing renewable generation supply portfolio with what will be our first locally-based power generation resource.”
Expected to be operational by the middle of next year, the Arkansas solar power facility will generate enough electricity to meet the requirements of more than 25% of Clarksville's residential electricity consumption.
Lester further added: “During those times of day when both our hydro and solar resources are producing power, Clarksville will be producing half its power from renewable energy sources.
