Alstom T&D India has secured a contract from Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (MHPA) to supply power transformers for the 720MW Mangdechhu hydroelectric project in Bhutan.
The INR550m (€7m) contract will see Alstom deliver four unit of 180MW transformers for the project, which is situated by the river Mangdechhu in Trongsa district.
The scope of the contract also includes the supply of 13 units of 75 MVA, 400kV generator transformers and an 80 MVAR, 400kV shunt reactor.
Alstom will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, transport, erect, test and commission the generator transformer, shunt reactor and the related equipment for the project.
The company will use its manufacturing facility in Naini to supply the entire equipment required for the project.
Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said: "Alstom T&D India is pleased to contribute to an ambitious hydropower development plan, and help establish a robust electrical grid for Bhutan with its latest technological products."

By GlobalDataThe power evacuation of the project has been planned via 400kV Mangdechhu-Jigmeling through Goling transmission line,using Alstom’s power transformers.
Mangdechhu project is one among the ten facilities planned under the 10,000MW hydropower development by 2020 by Royal Government of Bhutan and the Government of India.
The Central Electricity Authority of India estimates that Bhutan has hydropower potential of about 25,000MW.
