Acciona Energy has secured contracts from a company formed by Fisterra Energy to supply wind turbines for two projects, totalling 252MW, in Mexico.

The company also signed an agreement for the engineering, construction and commissioning of the wind farms Ventika and Ventika II, to be located in the municipality of General Bravo in the state of Nuevo León.

Additionally, Acciona will support the wind farms for 20 years, under the operation and maintenance agreement.

The contracts related to the projects are claimed to be worth about $650m.

Acciona will provide 84x3MW AW 116/3000 MW Windpower turbines with rotor diameter of 116m mounted on 120m high concrete towers for the projects.

The projects are slated to start construction in the second trimester of 2014, and commercial operation is expected by the second quarter of 2016.

Acciona Energy CEO Rafael Mateo said, "We are very pleased to have signed this major contract that strengthens our position in Mexico, in this case as a service provider to customers in the development of renewable projects".

Currently, Acciona operates 556.5MW wind portfolio in Mexico, which represents 28% of the country’s wind power capacity.
