US energy firm Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company has acquired a 6.0MW Wagner Wind farm in Palm Springs, California, from BayWa r.e.
BayWa r.e. has developed and constructed the wind farm, which is under a 20-year power purchase agreement to sell power to the City of Riverside. Currently, approximately 15 years are remaining as of the acquisition date.
Greenbacker CEO Charles Wheeler said: “Adding a wind asset contiguous to our Golden Horizons solar facility in Palm Springs provides significant operational efficiencies in the ongoing management of both assets.
“As we strategically expand our portfolio of wind assets, we continue to focus on the broader strategy of acquiring premier commercial renewable energy assets with high-quality off-takers.”
The acquisition has enhanced Greenbacker’s wind power portfolio to 61.5MW.
BayWa r.e. Wind CEO Florian Zerhusen said: “The sale of our Wagner Wind project rounds up a successful year for our US wind business and is the third project sold in 2017. We are preparing the next projects for construction and are looking forward to transacting with buyers and sellers on exciting projects.”
