Clean-energy company Fortum has secured a contract to implement a 10MW rooftop solar project, through a competitive bidding process held by S Group.
Under the terms of the contract, the company will implement a solar electricity system on the rooftops of about 40 commercial buildings across Finland.
Fortum will also be responsible for project planning, project management and equipment procurement.
Ten teams from ARE Solar will carry out the installation work, with completion expected this year, excluding a few new sites.
Fortum Business Development head Tatu Kulla said: “Realising our vision – for a cleaner world – isn’t easy nor can it be accomplished overnight.
“Fortunately, it is a goal that is also shared by many other companies and communities, and this S Group project to utilise solar energy in their commercial buildings is a prime example of that.”
The solar electricity project is claimed to be the biggest ever supply of rooftop solar electricity systems to be installed on rooftops in the Nordic countries.
Last year, the total solar power production capacity in Finland was about 35MW.
Fortum, which provides electricity, heating and cooling as well as smart solutions to its customers, reported €4.5bn sales last year.
S Group is a Finnish network of companies operating in the retail and service sectors and comprises the cooperatives and SOK Corporation along with its subsidiaries.
