European Energy has received a construction permit for the Jammerland Bugt offshore park from the Danish Energy Agency.

The project, located in the Bay of Jammerland near Kalundborg, Denmark, will have a capacity of 240MW.

The project enjoys local support, with a 2022 MEGAFON survey indicating that 59% of Kalundborg municipality residents backed the initiative.

European energy VP and head of offshore Andreas Karhula Lauridsen said: “There has been a lot dialogue between us and the local community around this project. This is a dialogue that we will continue after the construction permit, where we will be keen on explaining more of the project to the local community.”

The company also secured the construction permit for the Lillebaelt Syd offshore park in November, co-developed with Danish utility company SONFOR.

Located in the Strait of Lillebaelt near Soenderborg, Denmark, this project will have a capacity of 165MW. The electricity output from the wind park is expected to power approximately 148,000 European households.

Both offshore projects are scheduled to commence operations in 2029.

Earlier in 2024, European Energy and TotalEnergies signed an agreement to develop offshore wind projects in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden.

TotalEnergies will become the majority owner of both the Jammerland Bugt and Lillebaelt Syd projects.
