DE Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI), in collaboration with Ranger Power, has started construction for the Show Me State solar project following a successful financial close with project lenders.

The 250MWac solar facility is located in Callaway County, Missouri, US, and marks a significant step towards expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the region.

An affiliate of Meta has agreed to buy the energy generated from the Show Me State solar project to support its commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy usage.

DESRI chief commercial officer Thomas de Swardt said: “Starting construction at Show Me State Solar is an exciting milestone for DESRI, as well as our partners at Ranger Power. 

“This is DESRI’s third project in Missouri to start construction, and we appreciate all of the project’s stakeholders and supporters as we continue to expand our portfolio. We particularly appreciate Ranger’s efforts, as well as Meta’s support in moving the project forward.”

A consortium of lenders, including the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as the left lead arranger, alongside Nord/LB, Royal Bank of Canada, and Bank of America, has provided financing for the project.

Ranger Power co-founder and chief executive officer Adam Cohen said: “Ranger Power is proud to play a role in bringing this significant level of investment to Callaway County.

“A nearly $500m venture, this forward-thinking partnership advancing Meta’s role as a technology leader will benefit the local community and citizens of the Show Me State for decades to come with locally harvested and cost-effective power.”

The solar project aligns with Meta’s objectives to fully match its operations with renewable energy sources. This includes its data centre infrastructure in Kansas City, which will benefit from the renewable energy generated by the Show Me State Solar Project once operational.

In August 2024, DESRI, in partnership with El Paso Electric, initiated the construction of the 130MWac Carne solar and storage project in Deming, New Mexico, US.
