National Grid Renewables has started construction at its latest solar venture, the Sycamore Creek solar project in Crawford County, Ohio, US.
This new development will contribute 117MW of renewable energy to the grid and is projected to provide a $27m direct economic boost to the local community.
The Sycamore Creek solar project is to deliver substantial benefits to the host community, including significant tax revenue, job creation, and charitable donations.
Estimates suggest that the project could generate $16m in new tax revenue for Crawford County, enhancing local services such as schools, townships, and emergency response.
National Grid Renewables construction vice president Joe Ibrahim said: “We have a longstanding commitment to bringing forth sustainable energy solutions for the residents of Ohio.
“Sycamore Creek is our fifth solar project to begin construction within the state, and we want to thank Ohioans for their support as we continue to grow our portfolio in Ohio.”

By GlobalDataThe Sycamore Creek project is expected to create around 160 jobs during its construction phase.
National Grid Renewables has partnered with Kiewit Power Constructors for engineering, procurement, and construction services. The partners previously collaborated on four previous solar projects in the state.
Once completed, Sycamore Creek will augment National Grid Renewables’ portfolio in Ohio to more than 675MW of both operational and under-construction projects.
This initiative follows the Yellowbud solar project, which started operations in late 2023 and stands as the first and largest in their Ohio portfolio, alongside other ongoing projects such as the Dodson Creek solar project.
Kiewit Power Constructors vice president Brian Koller said: “We are proud to continue our partnership with National Grid Renewables on the Sycamore Creek solar project.
“Together, we are building a sustainable future while creating significant economic benefits for the communities we serve. This marks another milestone in our shared commitment to advancing clean energy solutions across Ohio.”
