Acciona Energia has begun commercial operations at its 325MWp Union Solar Farm in Marysville, central Ohio.

Recently, Acciona announced the installation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Extremadura I-II-III photovoltaic plant in Spain, utilising recycled batteries from electric vehicles.

The facility, which supports a power purchase agreement with Novartis, will feature a 2MW/5MWh storage capacity to optimise energy distribution.

The project, in collaboration with startup BeePlanet, will assess the efficacy of second-life batteries against new ones, fostering advancements in the circular economy.

With a two-decade-long presence in North America, Acciona has renewable energy portfolio in the US and Canada, currently boasting an installed capacity of 3GW. This figure is set to rise beyond 3.3GW upon the completion of the Forty Mile wind project in Alberta.

Last month, Acciona announced the sale of its 626MW hydro portfolio in Spain to Endesa for €1bn ($1.08bn). The deal, set to close in early 2025, awaits antitrust and investment approvals.
