A heating system with heat pump and stratified heat storage
A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230148376A1) describes a heating system that is designed to be connected to a building's heating distribution system. The system includes a heat pump arrangement, a stratified heat storage device, a mixing arrangement, and a control device. The heat pump arrangement heats a fluid and supplies it to the heat storage device, while also subtracting ingoing fluid from the storage device. The storage device then supplies fluid to the heating distribution system and receives returning fluid from it. The mixing arrangement regulates the temperature of the fluid entering the heating distribution system and controls the temperature of the returning fluid. The method involves heating a fluid and storing it at differentiated temperatures in the stratified heat storage device. The temperature of the fluid entering the heating distribution system is regulated in the mixing arrangement, and the return of the returning fluid from the distribution system to the storage device is controlled to ensure a temperature difference of at least 10°C within the storage device. The method can be performed using a heat pump arrangement or an electric heater arrangement. The control of the heat pump arrangement includes heating the fluid to achieve an outgoing temperature of at least 55°C. The method also involves regulating a mix of top section fluid, midsection fluid, and returning fluid in the mixing arrangement, and controlling the fluid flow through the heating distribution system and/or withdrawing returning fluid back to the mixing arrangement based on temperature thresholds.
