Description
The project is being developed by Chenab Valley Power Projects. NHPC and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51% and 49% respectively.
Pakal Dul is a reservoir based project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 133.216 million cubic meter. The net head of the project will be 397.3m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 4 in number. The penstock length will be 1,065m. The penstock diameter will be 3.9m. The project is expected to generate 3,387 GWh of electricity.
Development status
The project construction is expected to commence from 2018. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2025.

Voith Hydro Holding will be the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company is expected to provide 4 units of francis turbines, each with 250MW nameplate capacity.
