Wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has secured a contract to deliver and install 13 turbines for a community wind farm project in Germany.
The company signed a contract with BürgerEnergiepark Druiberg to supply E-160 EP5 turbines for the first community wind farm in Saxony-Anhalt, which will have the capacity to generate 72MW of renewable energy.
The signing of the contract represents the ongoing continuation of a long-term partnership for both parties.
Representing another key milestone in this partnership, this project will be implemented in the border areas of two merged municipalities, Stadt Osterwieck and EHG Huy.
The merged municipalities in the Harz district are said to have demonstrated strong support for wind energy for many years.
Furthermore, the “Guidelines for Fair Wind Power Planning” from the host municipalities were considered for the first time in the implementation of the project.
These guidelines emphasise the importance of maximising local value creation, alongside citizen and municipal involvement.
More than two-thirds of local electricity consumers source their energy directly from the regional wind farm.
Enercon Central and Northern Europe regional head Benjamin Seifert said: “We are very pleased that we have once again been able to convince a long standing.
“The close cooperation with BürgerEnergiepark Druiberg and the majority participation of local citizens in this wind farm ensures high regional approval and strong anchoring of the project in the population.”
Earlier this year, Enercon partnered with Salzgitter and TMGROUP to produce the first lower-emissions steel tower for an onshore wind turbine in Germany.
The steel tower components originating from the partnership will be used on an E-138 EP3 wind turbine as part of the Diepholzer Bruch project in Lower Saxony, Germany.
