Singapore-based solar PV manufacturer EliTe Solar has commenced the development of a new solar manufacturing facility within the Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, marking a leap in the company’s international growth strategy.
The facility will be constructed with a planned capacity of 5GW, covering an area of 78,000m2.
The production, which is expected to start in September 2025, will include 2GW solar cell and 3GW solar module production lines.
The project follows the company’s announced plans to build an 8GW solar manufacturing hub in the Suez Special Economic Zone in Egypt in September.
Egypt Special Economic Zone Authority chairman Waleid Gamal Eldien said: “The launch of this project represents a major milestone in the development of Egypt’s solar industry.
“By introducing advanced solar manufacturing technologies and optimising local supply chains, this initiative will raise Egypt’s overall manufacturing standards. EliTe Solar’s advanced solar technology and managerial expertise will further enhance our global standing in solar power industry.”

By GlobalDataThe project is poised to introduce advanced energy manufacturing technologies to Egypt, enhancing the local solar industry’s supply chain and elevating Egypt’s export capabilities in the solar market.
It is anticipated to be a catalyst for the local economy and a pivotal component in achieving Egypt’s 2030 renewable energy target, which aims for a 42% clean energy transformation.
China-Africa TEDA Investment chairman Li Daixin said: “This project not only strengthens Egypt’s solar industry but also positions the country as a key solar manufacturing hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It enhances supply chain capabilities while providing crucial support for global renewable energy growth.”
The urgency for a diversified energy mix in Egypt has been underscored by recent power shortages and blackouts, signalling a strong future demand for electricity.
EliTe Solar’s new facility is expected to address these challenges by providing sustainable energy solutions.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to produce 500 million kWh per year, conserve around 307 million tonnes of standard coal, and reduce carbon emissions equivalent to the planting of 84 million trees.
EliTe Solar has previously established manufacturing hubs in Vietnam, Indonesia, and now Egypt, reinforcing its global industrial footprint.
Earlier in the month, EliTe Solar commissioned a new solar cell production facility in Indonesia to provide clean energy and sustainable economic growth in the region.
