Italian energy company Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MSC Group, a provider of transport and cruise services, to collaborate on sustainability and energy transition initiatives.
The partnership is set to expand their business relationship into new geographic areas, relating to sustainability and decarbonisation of their operations.

The agreement includes exploring the use of LNG, biofuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and bio-LNG, and renewable lubricants for MSC’s fleets.
Eni said the agreement aligns with its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and MSC’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint.
The collaboration extends to assessing renewable energy solutions for decarbonising MSC’s sites and facilities.
The partnership aims to create synergies between the operations of both companies, encompassing logistics services, intermodal transport, and agro-industrial activities.

Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said: “This agreement marks the start of our collaboration with MSC in the decarbonisation of transport and cruise services.
“MSC is the world leader in the sector and we are confident that together we will be able to develop and implement decarbonisation initiatives, that provide an important contribution to the sector and the reduction of emissions from our transport systems.”
Furthermore, the collaboration covers the decommissioning of offshore platforms, joint R&D, and participation in the Open-es platform for value-chain sustainability.
The agreement also emphasises circular economy practices such as the use of renewable and recycled plastics on board MSC’s fleets and the management of waste produced.
Additionally, the two companies will explore the redevelopment of decommissioned Eni assets.
