General Electric (GE) has been awarded a contract by Toto Costruzioni to supply turbines for a 22.8MW wind farm in Puglia region in Italy.
The wind farm will be fitted with eight GE 2.85-103 turbines and operated by Ponte Albanito, a vehicle company, which is owned 70% by Renexia and 30% by Banco Santander.
The project will generate enough power to fulfill the needs of around 15,000 homes in the region.
Renexia COO Michele Scoppio said that for Renexia’s first foray into wind energy it was mindful of picking a provider with whom it can create the synergy needed to succeed in this arena.
"GE’s 2.85-103 wind turbines were best suited for the site conditions in Ponte Albanito and were the most economical and efficient in the industry," Scoppio added.
GE European renewable energy business general manager Cliff Harris said that the agreement with Toto Costruzioni signifies the debut of the 2.85MW wind turbine in Italy.

By GlobalData"This wind turbine, with its 103mr rotor, captures more energy with ultra-quiet power production," Harris added.
"In addition, often auctions tend to decrease incentives meaning it is even more important to have the most efficient wind turbines possible to bring more value to our customers."
The company will provide remote monitoring and diagnostics to the 2.85MW wind farm through its global wind monitoring centre in Salzbergen, Germany.
