Borusan EnBW Enerji, a joint venture between German EnBW and Turkish Borusan, has entered into a framework agreement with Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for the development of five wind farms totalling 207MW in Turkey.

Under the terms of agreement, Vestas will be responsible for providing 67 V112 3MW wind turbines, each with a hub height of 84m and a rotor diameter of 112m, to be manufactured in stages in five locations.

Work on the first project that includes an extension to the Bandirma Wind Farm is expected to begin shortly.

The five wind power projects in Turkey, which would be completed by the end of 2015, are expected to generate around 721GWh of electricity per year, enough to power around 200,000 households.

EnBW CEO Frank Mastiaux said that the company’s wind project in Turkey is a key aspect of its corporate strategy and is based on its strategic assessment of the Turkish energy market, taking into account the capacities and technologies required and renewable energy expansion.

"Abundant wind and the good, strong partnership with Borusan are the best preconditions for leveraging our opportunities here as well," Mastiaux added .
