E.ON has commissioned a 211MW wind farm and a 18MW solar farm in the US.

Located 26 miles east of Amarillo, Texas Panhandle, the Grandview I onshore wind farm features 118 GE 1.7-100 wind turbines.

The wind farm is a joint venture between EON and GE Energy Financial Services.

Capable of generating enough energy for about 64,000 homes, the facility will reduce 482,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

The wind farm will feed power into the new Competitive Renewable Energy Zones infrastructure in Texas, using the lines constructed to add renewable capacity in the state.

EC&RNA has managed construction of the wind farm and will also be responsible for operations and maintenance services.

E.ON has commissioned the Fort Huachuca solar plant, which is now generating power to the grid in southern Arizona.

Constructed at the US Army Fort Huachuca in partnership with Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and the US Army Energy Initiatives Task Force (EITF), the solar plant will be owned and operated by TEP.

The solar facility will supply electricity to Fort Huachuca under a long-term contract.

E.ON delivered construction management and supply chain services for the project.

E.ON renewables division Eckhardt Rümmler said: "The commissioning of a solar project and a wind farm demonstrates our capability to work successfully with a range of technologies.

"It is a major advantage that E.ON is able to handle different regimes and partners globally."

E.ON presently operates more than 10GW of renewable capacity including large hydro.
