Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned the first unit of Alaknanda Hydro Power Corporation’s (GVK Group) 82.5 MW Greenfield hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand state of India.
The project is divided into four units with 82.5 MW each, located on the Alaknanda River, which is also a major tributary of Ganga River.
The project will use the waters of River Alaknanda by way of a diversion dam, and the power generated from Shrinagar HEP to generate electricity.
BHEL will be responsible for design, supplying, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of four units of the Greenfield hydroelectric project.
Apart from the Greenfield hydroelectric project, BHEL is also responsible for the Lata Tapovan HEP (3×57 MW), Vyasi HEP (2X60 MW), Tapovan Vishnugarh HEP (4×130 MW), Pipalkoti HEP (4×111 MW) projects in Uttarakhand alone.
BHEL said: “So far, more than 500 hydro generating sets of various ratings have been contracted on BHEL in India and abroad, with a cumulative capacity of more than 26,000 MW. Of these, equipment for about 5,000 MW generating capacity has been contracted outside India.”
