Vestas Wind Systems has received a new order from EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) to deliver V110-2.0MW wind turbines for the 80MW Copenhagen Wind Project in the US.

The wind power project is being developed by an EDF RE company, Own Energy, under a local partnership model.

Own Energy was acquired by EDF RE in 2015.

Located in Lewis and Jefferson counties in upstate New York, the power generated at the Copenhagen project will be sold to Narragansett Electric Company under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Narragansett Electric Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Grid.

Copenhagen Wind Project will generate approximately 120 construction jobs, and six long-term operations and maintenance jobs.

EDF RE Development executive vice-president Ryan Pfaff said: “Copenhagen is another example of how wind power strengthens America, creates jobs, boosts rural economies, and makes our electricity grid more affordable, reliable and secure.

“We are pleased to forge a new business relationship with National Grid to bring the economic benefits of wind energy to New York.”

Construction of the wind power facility is slated to begin in August this year and commence commercial operations in November next year.

The electricity produced at the plant at full capacity will be enough to address the requirements of up to 35,000 average New York households, in addition to reducing more than 177,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Renewable Energy Systems has been awarded the construction contract of the facility.
