SPIE Global Services Energy subsidiary Correll has secured a contract from Jan De Nul for cable termination and testing services on RWE‘s 1GW Thor offshore wind project off Denmark’s coast.

The works are set to begin in July 2025, with preliminary activities planned for November 2024.

Correll managing director Sam Dowey said: “Such an award is a great testament to the professionalism, expertise and technical capabilities provided by the entire Correll team, and we are looking forward to working with Jan De Nul on this and all future projects.”

The contract involves providing 66kV IAC termination and testing services for the 72 turbines at the wind farm.

This is a significant step for the project, which is expected to start offshore installation and commissioning in 2025.

Jan De Nul, in consortium with Hellenic Cables, has been awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and installation contracts by RWE and will deliver the complete wire package.

This includes manufacturing and installing 60km of export cables along a 30km route from the offshore wind farm to the shore and approximately 200km of inter-array cables.

The Thor offshore wind farm is being constructed in the Danish North Sea, around 22km from the coast of Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland.

It is due to be commissioned in 2027 and significantly contribute to Denmark’s renewable energy infrastructure.

SPIE Global Services Energy Wind power business unit director Gianluca Petraccia said: “We are thrilled to receive this award from Jan De Nul which is a key business partner for our organisation.

“It is an honour to contribute to the installation of what will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm.

“This project, which will be part of our 2025 activities, aligns with SPIE Global Services Energy diversification strategy and will play a key role in the transition to low-carbon energy sources.”

In June this year, Jan De Nul Group, in partnership with LS Cable & System, secured a contract to supply, install and test three 220kV alternating current subsea cables.
