Description

The project is being developed by Hidroelectrica Ituango. Colombia's Antioquia department (IDEA) and Empresas Publicas De Medellin are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 52.89% and 46.47% respectively.

HidroItuango is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 20.07 million cubic meter. The net head of the project will be 197m. The penstock length will be 69m. The penstock diameter will be 5m. The project is expected to generate 13,930 GWh of electricity.

Development status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2010. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2023.

HidroItuango (HidroItuango 1,2 Units) will be equipped with GE Renewable Energy francis turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 300MW nameplate capacity.

HidroItuango (HidroItuango 3,4 Units) will be equipped with GE Renewable Energy francis turbines. The phase consists of 2 turbines with 300MW nameplate capacity.

HidroItuango (HidroItuango 5-8 Units) will be equipped with GE Renewable Energy francis turbines. The phase consists of 4 turbines with 1,200MW nameplate capacity.
