Description

The project is being developed and currently owned by Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project Authority.

Punatsangchhu-II is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is planned to be 7 million cubic meter. The gross head and net head of the project will be 264m and 241m respectively. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, is expected to be 6 in number. The penstock length will be 400m. The penstock diameter will be 3.86m. The project is expected to generate 4,357.36 GWh of electricity.

Development status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2010. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2024.

Bharat Heavy Electricals will be the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company is expected to provide 6 units of francis turbines, each with 170MW nameplate capacity.
