Description

The project was developed by Deepwater Wind Block Island and is currently owned by Orsted US Offshore Wind with a stake of 100%.

The wind turbines in the Block Islands Wind Farm Phase I are installed on fixed foundations. An array of jacket foundations feature in the phase.

The wind turbines in the Block Islands Wind Farm Phase II are installed on fixed foundations. An array of jacket foundations feature in the phase.

The project generates 120,229MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 17,000 households, offsetting 121,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

Development status

The project is currently active. The project construction commenced in 2015 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in December 2016.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to National Grid under a power purchase agreement for a period of 20 years, starting from 2016.

Contractors involved

GE Renewable Energy was selected as the turbine supplier for the wind power project. The project consists of 5 units of Haliade 150-6MW turbines, each with 6MW nameplate capacity.

Alstom is the O&M contractor for the wind power project. The operation and maintenance contract commenced from 2016, for a period of 15 years.

The wind power project consists of Tubular Steel towers supplied by GE Renewable Energy. These towers are around 82.3m high.
